MIDEM: Sullivan Predicts End of DRM

CANNES, Jan. 30 –- RightsFlow Entertainment Group principal Patrick Sullivan does not believe that music will all be free in the future but he is convinced that 2008 will see the end of DRM. “DRM is dead and I think we’ll see a move by a big company with a lot of investment capital, someone like Google, to force the issue this year,” he said.
Sullivan’s company counts EMI, LimeWire and background music giant Muzak amongst its clients: “Muzak provides 60% of the background music in the US,” Sullivan said. “That’s a hundred million listeners per day across 400,000 outlets.”
