Digital Media Wire: RightsFlow Inks Deals with PRS for Music, PIAS

Cannes, France – RightsFlow, a provider of bulk mechanical licensing and royalty services for the music industry, on Monday announced agreements with PRS for Music, which represents 65,000 U.K. songwriters, and PIAS Entertainment Group, which provides distribution for 200 record labels. RightsFlow will now identify and license PRS for Music works for mechanical uses in the U.S. The company’s deal with PIAS will see RightsFlow provide mechanical licensing and royalty payment service for all of the company’s 200 distributed labels.

RightsFlow, which provides mechanical licensing for labels and digital service providers, has signed a deal to identify and license PRS for Music works for mechanical uses in the U.S.

Since digital service providers began paying for streaming, subscription and advertising supported service in July, royalties can be held in escrow by DSPs, labels and aggregators. This deal can facilitate payment to the proper publishers and songwriters.

RightsFlow becomes first Full Member under new Digital Data Exchange (DDEX) membership structure

New York, NY – January 25, 2010 – RightsFlow announced today that it has joined Digital Data Exchange (DDEX) as its first Full Member using the new membership structure, which links the level of dues to the member’s revenue. They join a growing roster of forty plus DDEX members that include music content companies, music rights societies, digital and mobile service providers and digital media supply chain service providers.

RightsFlow and PRS for Music Agree to a deal to share Data and facilitate Mechanical Compulsory Licensing In the US

Cannes, France – January 24, 2010RightsFlow, a leading provider of bulk mechanical licensing and royalty services, announced an agreement with PRS for Music,, the music copyright organization representing 65,000 UK songwriters, composers and publishers, to allow RightsFlow to identify and license PRS for Music works for mechanical uses in the United States.  The project fills a crucial gap, ensuring that UK songwriters receive royalties from digital transactions in the United States even where content does not have North American representation.

The agreement puts in place a data-sharing capability whereby RightsFlow can send usage information to PRS for Music who will cross-check this with their own copyright systems.   The result will be better matching of the appropriate sub-publisher or licensing body in the US, or where works are unrepresented direct accounting to PRS for Music.

12pm, Saturday 23rd January MIDEM, Cannes, France [PIAS] Entertainment Group, Europe’s leading music and entertainment services provider, announced an agreement with RightsFlow to provide mechanical licensing and royalty payment services for all its 200 distributed labels.

Billboard: Rightsflow Names Kauffman VP of Sales/Marketing

Kauffman was most recently led account management, marketing and social media strategy at the HiFive Group in New York. Prior to that he held senior sales and management positions with the Verve Music Group and Windham Hill Records.

“HOW WILL I GET PAID?” Music Industry Execs Discuss Payment Models, Pirates, and Monetization at the CMJ Music Marathon

Four days of CMJ-sponsored panel discussions at NYU’s Kimmel Center last month saw musicians and music-industry professionals hashing out some of the most pressing issues facing the music business today. Not surprisingly, the monetization and piracy of digital music was a subject that came up in all panels, though (also not surprisingly) the issue was never fully resolved. Meeting one week before Google’s announcement of a partnership with MySpace, Lala, Rhapsody, and imeem to launch its OneBox music search engine, the panelists proposed a variety of remedies for the five-billion-dollar loss that the music industry has suffered annually, ostensibly due to pirating, since 2000.
