Dan Pifer joined Rightsflow in February, 2010 to lead the technology and operations teams which manage outsourced licensing and royalties for Rightflow’s 9500 clients. He brings 20 years of experience in the music industry as both an artist and executive working in distribution, digital retail and live streaming companies. He is passionate about technology and has built teams and systems for mechanical licensing, royalties and content management. At Rightsflow, Dan is building on the existing licensing and royalty platform called Flow, in order to create new and innovative products and services.
Prior to joining Rightsflow, Dan was the Executive Vice President of Operations and Technology at The Orchard Enterprises, Inc (NasdaqGM: ORCD), a leading distributor and marketer for independent music labels. In addition to managing numerous operational teams, including the mechanical licensing group, Dan oversaw the build of a state of the art audio and video distribution system for both digital and physical retail outlets. Before The Orchard, Dan managed the content, mechanical licensing and royalty teams and systems development at eMusic, a leading digital retail subscription service. Prior to eMusic, Dan was the Vice President at The Digital Club Network, which operated a network of steaming installations at over 50 music venues across the US. In addition to managing the operational teams, he also designed and built the streaming systems, managed the network of venues, and designed a kiosk that allowed for the sale of audio recordings on USB pen drives immediately following concerts. In his previous life, Dan was the bass player for the band God Street Wine which recorded albums for Geffen and Mercury record labels and toured continuously throughout the 90’s.
In addition to his passion for music, and belief that creators should be paid for their work, Dan believes that the future of the music business lies in centralized, operational services, and that Rightsflow is perfectly situated to help many companies achieve growth and manage risk through outsourcing.
